Agios Nikolaos Geopark

The Petrified Forest of Southeastern Laconia on the Malea Peninsula

The Geopark of Agios Nikolaos, with the petrified Palm Forest of the coastal zone, is included in the Atlas of Geological Monuments of the Aegean and claims today with strong evidence a place in the European Geoparks Network. At the coastal locations of Agia Marina, Korakas, and Spitha, the petrified witnesses of a distant past hold guarded the secrets and codes of their era.

Entry to the Geopark is free all year round.

The Geopark is located in the area of Agia Marina, southeast of Agios Nikolaos, and near the Cape Malea.
Access to the Geopark is through the village of Agios Nikolaos. A small section, approximately 300 meters, of the road is unpaved but easily passable.

In the wider area of unparalleled beauty of the Geopark and the Maléa Peninsula, you can find the Zobolo climbing park, the settlement of Prophet Elias with its namesake chapel, the path to Cape Maléa, and Agia Eirini, among others.

Tours

For August 2024 every Wednesday and Thursday from 10am to 6pm

During the summer months, there is a guide at the Agios Nikolaos Geopark, and access to the Geopark Information Center is possible.
